Facts about the Currency of Independent Tibet.
In 1792 the Tibetan Government began minting its own coins, Tamka with Tibetan Inscriptions.
In 1890 the Tibetan Government first introduced paper currency. The first notes were in denominations of five, ten, twenty five and fifty tamka. these notes were later renamed sang.
In 1918 there was one series of gold coins struck. All the notes and coins bore the Tibetan Government seal of the lion together with the date of issue.
