On 26th February 1963, 21 Tibetan refugee children landed at London Heathrow Airport. A BOAC Airliner brings the thirteen boys and eight girls to the UK, from a refugee camp in northern India. Many now orphaned, the children have fled Chinese occupation and persecution.
Five year old Kalasang Youdon sits alone on the steps of the Airport. The children are to be relocated to the Pestalozzi Village for Children in Sedlescombe, East Sussex, The community is named after eighteenth century swiss educationalist, Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi
