Palden Lhamo, the principal protectress of Tibet, holds a significant place in Tibetan culture and spirituality. As the only female among the Eight Guardians of the Dharma, she embodies strength, wisdom, and fierce determination. Palden Lhamo is revered as the primary protector of Tibet. This black-ground (Tibetan: nag thang) painting was installed in the chapel (gonkhang) dedicated to the wrathful protective deities (dharmapalas), a room reserved for tantric initiation rites within a Tibetan monastery. Palden Lhamo is a multifaceted female tantric Buddhist deity who manifests in numerous forms. As the primary protector of Tibet, she is the sole female Guardian among the  Eight Guardians of the Dharma.
