President Obama’s Meeting with the Dalai Lama

In July 2011, President Barack Obama met with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. This meeting was significant as the White House applauded the Dalai Lama’s dedication to non-violence and his commitment to dialogue with China, endorsing his Middle Way Approach.

 


Encouragement for Dialogue

The White House emphasized the importance of direct dialogue to resolve the long-standing differences between China and Tibet. They highlighted that a productive dialogue would be beneficial for both China and the Tibetan people.


Tibetan Leadership’s Commitment

Tibetan leadership, under the guidance of Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay, reiterated their unwavering commitment to the Middle Way Approach. They stressed that the only viable path forward is through dialogue between the Dalai Lama’s envoys and Chinese representatives.
